The website Mental Floss has put together an exhaustive list of all of John Lennon’s cats, from his childhood on by his career with a Beatles and adult to his final days vital in Manhattan with his wife, Yoko Ono. As it turns out, Lennon totally precious felines, and his clearly scathing wit came by in how he named them.
For example, Lennon’s cat during a second half of a Beatles’ career was named Jesus, that was expected a tongue-in-cheek response to a media debate over his criticism that a Beatles were “bigger than Jesus.” (Paul McCartney apparently also owned a cat named Jesus, so this fun clearly went over good with a Beatles camp.) Later on, Lennon would have a span of cats, one black and one white, that were named Salt and Pepper, and another span of discovered strays named Major and Minor.
Lennon’s initial cat as a immature child was named Elvis Presley, that he and his mom named after a singer, yet they would eventually learn that a cat was womanlike when she had a spawn of kittens in their cupboard.
