Patti Smith announced on New Year’s Eve that she will be ending her tradition of year-ending residencies during Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom. Smith, who has played 3 shows during a finish of Dec during a venue for 14 uninterrupted years, pennyless a news on theatre during her New Year’s Eve gig on Saturday night.
Smith’s final New Year’s Eve gig during a ballroom enclosed a guest coming from former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, who sang a delivery of a Jimmy Webb balance “Wichita Lineman.” (It wasn’t an unknown strain for a singer, who performed it occasionally with his aged rope on their universe debate for a Monster album and expelled it as a b-side to a “Bittersweet Me” singular in 1996.)
According to Lenny Kaye, Smith’s guitarist, a rope still intends to play New Year’s Eve gigs in a future, though will be relocating on to another location.
