Retro Single Review: Shania Twain, “When”
January 2, 2012
1998 | Peak: #14 (Canada); #18 (U.K.)
The closest thing in Twain’s catalog to a mislaid hit, “When” was expelled as a follow adult to “You’re Still a One” in a United Kingdom. Twain even shot a video for a song, that consists mostly of her personification in trade while dressed like an angel.
“When” has a opposite tinge than many of Come On Over. As a usually strain that deals with heartbreak, it’s thematically opposite from a rest of a set. The lyrics are only tongue-in-cheek adequate to keep her divided from self-pity territory, and a tune of a carol pushes her to one of her best outspoken performances.
Because it came before a really large cocktail hits in a U.K. and after all of them in Canada, “When” has a combined reward of being a Come On Over hit that didn’t humour from overexposure, creation it sound fresher than the counterparts today.
