Namibia remove bid to reinstate Burkina Faso in Nations Cup (Reuters)

ZURICH, Jan 10 (Reuters) – Namibia have mislaid their
attempt to reinstate Burkina Faso during a African Nations Cup
after sport’s top judiciary deserted their criticism about the
eligibility of a player.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) pronounced Namibia’s
appeal had been discharged by a Court of Arbitration for Sport
(CAS), clearing a West African team’s participation.

“The preference of a interest house of a CAF is confirmed,”
said CAS, according to a African confederation.

Namibia, beaten twice by Burkina Faso in a qualifiers, had
accused their opponents of fielding Cameroon-born defender Herve
Zengue when he was ineligible.

The Nations Cup, co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon,
runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 12.

CAF says Namibia interest deserted by CAS (AP)

JOHANNESBURG (AP)—The African football connection says sport’s highest
court has inspected a preference to concede Burkina Faso to contest in a African
Cup of Nations and deserted an interest by Namibia over an incompetent player.

The Confederation of African Football says, quoting a statute by the
Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport, that Namibia’s interest over the
eligibility of Cameroon-born defender Herve Zengue has been dismissed.

Namibia protested to CAF over Zengue’s participation in Burkina Faso’s group after
losing out to a Burkinabes in subordinate for this month’s African Cup.

CAF also says a Namibia Football Association contingency compensate 5,000 Swiss francs
($5,275) toward a authorised fees for a CAS hearing.

Emmanuel Zombre, an central with Burkina Faso’s football federation, also
told The Associated Press that a nation had defended a place during a African
